Vali Mahlouji

Cultural Historian, Curator, and Writer

Dr. Vali Mahlouji is a cultural historian, curator, writer, and founding director of Archaeology of the Final Decade (AOTFD), a research and art-historical initiative dedicated to recovering, preserving, and recontextualizing erased, censored, and marginalized cultural histories. For more than three decades, his work has explored the intersections of art, politics, memory, and historical reconstruction, with a particular focus on narratives that have been excluded from dominant cultural discourse.

Mahlouji has curated exhibitions and research projects for leading international institutions, including Whitechapel Gallery, Musée d’Art Moderne de Paris, MAXXI Museum, SAVVY Contemporary, Dhaka Art Summit, Garage Museum, Sursock Museum, Asia Culture Center, and Photo London. Through AOTFD, he has developed pioneering models for archival research and curatorial practice that reconnect contemporary audiences with overlooked histories and cultural movements. His work continues to contribute to international conversations around cultural memory, preservation, and historical justice.
